Condolences to the Sykes Family

Tragic news.

Mequon - Firefighters responding to a neighbor’s 911 call of a condominium fire Tuesday afternoon found the body of Katherine B. Sykes, the 87-year-old mother of Milwaukee radio talk show host Charlie Sykes, inside the residence.

Charlie Sykes confirmed in a statement Tuesday that his mother died in a fire at her condominium.

Mequon police and firefighters were dispatched at 3:17 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a fire with the resident possibly still inside the condo in the 12000 block of N. Woodland Drive.

The first firefighters to arrive reported smoke and flames inside the residence. Katherine Sykes’ body was discovered shortly after firefighters entered the building.

Ozaukee County Coroner John Holicek said he would not know until an autopsy is done today whether Katherine Sykes died as a result of the fire or had died earlier.
