Leftie Blogger Applauds Disruption of Speech at UWM

Liberals used to at least pretend that they believed in free speech. But they seldom bother any more.

Example: “Whallah!,” a blog started for the sole purpose of stalking Jessica McBride, deals with a blog post from Patrick McIlheran about how a speech from David Horowitz at UWM was disrupted by leftist and Islamic students. According to McIlheran:
The encouraging part is this, and you’ll see it about two-thirds of the way through: “University officials ordered metal detectors and a security force of a more than dozen burly officers and staffers for the event. I didn’t count how many individuals had to be ejected during my remarks but there were many,” he writes.
McIlheran finds this encouraging because UWM protected Horowitz’ right to speak. Some might consider it deplorable that people who disagree with Horowitz tried to shut him up.

But not Whallah. He opines:
Why is that encouraging, you may ask? Because it shows there is a growing number of people that see through the lies of the righties. It also shows that there is growing discontent with the way that things are going in this country, and that more and more people are ready to correct the course we are on.
That’s right.

He finds it “encouraging” that people tried to shout down and disrupt the talk of a speaker with whom he disagrees.

Unsatisfied with just eradicating the second amendment, they've now set their sights on negating the first.

If only they'd exercise the fifth. The silence would be golden...

You are going to have to explain that. I think you see "irony" where none exists.

The University allowed the guest to present his case. If his topics offend in a way that incites, you can expect a reaction. Since this is a common response on campus's everywhere, you would think he would find a less provocative way to engage his audience. Nope. David Horowitz is condescending and inflammatory, insists on high security for understandable reasons and to intimidate. For him, threats along with his own form of bigotry and belittling, is a sourse of pride and a badge of honor. He brags about it as part of his presentation. The crazier he is, the more riled the audience, the more he can accuse them of trying to censor him. He has a right to speak, he doesn't have a right to silence those who disagree, which is something this blog appears to support.

Sitting in silent obedience seems to work just fine for you.

You're going to need to explain that too.

Is somebody suggesting disrupting Maher's speech?

If so, I object to that.

So if Christians went and disrupted Maher, you would say that proves that Maher should "find a less provocative way to engage his audience?"

I would love to see the response from Bill Maher. He's a pro and will know how to handle 'em.

You authoritarians hate dissent don't you. This whole thing really upsets you. Horowitz was just on Air America's Thom Hartmann Show pushing his new paranoia. Thom often puts clips of those interviews up on Air America's web site. Check it out.

You are showing that you hate dissent.

Horowitz is a dissenter.

I find this comment absolutely side splitting histerical because the gentlemen who said it all but demands totalitarianism. Want to be an individual is a socialist world, you'll be off to some re-education camp or gulag before you can snap your fingers. The ends justify the means so they won't feel the least bit bad.

Professor-

You have betrayed your own argument. In later posts, you claim that American is pulling their sponsorship. Let us say that this is true. You have forced American to waive their right to sponsor who they wish, much like the right argues for regarding 527s in political contests.

Next, this could conceivably jeopardize the event, thereby denying Maher a chance to earn his money, and keeping people who do not share the same hang ups as you to go out for an evening's entertainment, or at least not the one they would have preferred.

Where does your right to be offended end? You already have infringed on the rights of those of us with thicker skins and stronger senses of humor.

I can't force American to do anything. I can embarrass them a bit with my blog.

Try to get this through you skull: I have no obligation to buy at American.

Your leftist buddies will boycott a corporation whose politics or policies they don't like at the drop of a hat.

Does that infringe free expression?

Where was the thicker skin on those that tried to disrupt the speech, or the MSA who were tearing down the advertising posters for the speech?

Typical of the left, free speech for me (liberals), shout down thee (non-liberals).
