We are here to provide an independent, rather skeptical view of events at Marquette University. Comments are enabled on most posts, but extended comments are welcome and can be e-mailed to jmcadams2@juno.com. E-mailed comments will be treated like Letters to the Editor. This site has no official connection with Marquette University. Indeed, when University officials find out about it, they will doubtless want it shut down.

These students are taking their cues from 60s campus leftists? Really, John. Looks to me like they are taking cues from the nut jobs in the tea party movement.
The tea party movement hasn't been shouting down people they disagree with.
The 60s campus leftists did, and their ideological children are very much in evidence (and in power) in universities in 2011.
As someone who was an undergraduate on a large state university from 1968 to 1972, I will say that McAdams is correct here. The 60s-70s troublemakers did the same thing that's seen in the video.
Yeah the tea party may not be doing it. But "rightist" members of our Congress do it during State of the Union addresses.
Could we say he's taking a page out of the new Republican Congress' playbook?
Anony.
So what is your opinion on the shouting down by the "students"?
Agree with them, disagree?
But "rightist" members of our Congress do it during State of the Union addresses.
But there is a difference between heckling that simply expresses disapproval, and that that prevents a speaker from speaking.
Calling Obama a "liar" during the State of the Union was uncivil, but it in no way prevented him from saying what he wanted to say.
It's odd that you don't understand the difference between merely uncivil behavior and outright fascism.
Let us also not forget that many leftists at Universities love to shout down conservative speakers, or attack them with pies, or in the case of the Minute Man speaker, threaten him. There isn't, to my knowledge, a comparable incident by conservative students. Ward Churchill was allowed to speak without interruption. The left apparently doesn't feel the same respect for free speech when they disagree with it. They should get on splendidly with the Islamists. For a time, anyway.
Students being extremely vocal against a state that unlawfully kills with our approval, money, and weapons. Sometimes democracy isn't pretty. It can't always be. I don't agree with all the tactics of these students, but when you push people toward the edge, expect them to push back.
"The tea party movement hasn't been shouting down people they disagree with."
Spare me.
