Marquette Warrior in Oxford to Debate the Death Penalty
As you can imagine, it’s quite an experience to be in Oxford.
Among other things I’ve noticed: in any university town people jaywalk.
But jaywalking in the UK can be dangerous for an American, who is used to looking to the left at first when crossing the street, and then to the right. Probably a few Americans have been killed because the Brits drive on the wrong side of the road.

Canadians are changing over to driving on the left side to even out the wear and tear on roads. To ease the transition, during the first year only trucks will drive on the left.
Based simply on geography, I'm guessing a significant number of Continental Europeans (who drive on the right side of the road!) have been hit on British streets over Americans. It's also arguable that Europeans have more common sense than Americans.
I do know that at least in London, they print "Look Right/Look Left" on the pedestrian crosswalks, but I think that has less to do with preventing Yanks, Frogs, and THE DUTCH getting hit by cars, and more to do with overwhelming Health and Safety legislation.
My, you do move in high circles.
I hope some record of this debate will be made available to us.
