Logical fallacy. Religion =/= gun ownership. I detest everything you stand for, but even I expected better from you.
It's called "analogy." It's perfectly logical. The analogy may or may not overlook important differences between the cases, but that is an arguable matter of insight, not a matter of logic.
So what you need to do is to explain what those important differences are and why they suggest that the analogy is not telling.
Prof. Mcadams can then respond and explain why the differences you name might well exist, but do not diminish the importance of what the analogy reveals.
Then you'd have a conversation instead of an expression of hate (or detestation, if you find that hate =/= detestation).
