Cream City Bluegrass This Fall

Hi Bluegrass Fans and Friends,

It’s been a while since I’ve been in touch about things bluegrass – but I thought you might want to be spared a play-by-play of the Cream City Bluegrass Band’s every movement across the state this summer! But now that fall is here, we have a bunch of local gigs coming up, several of which are really nice family events. They include:

Saturday, September 12: East Troy Bluegrass Festival (East Troy’s downtown square) – a great event in a lovely setting with some top national bands. We play at 1:00 PM.

Friday, September 25: Revere’s Wells Street Tavern (505 Wells St, Delafield) – a casual restaurant/bar with excellent food. We play 9:00 PM- midnight.

Saturday, September 26: South Shore Farmers Market (South Shore Park, MKE – Bay View) – a great local tradition. We play 10:00 AM – Noon.

Saturday, October 10: Swan’s Pumpkin Farm (Franksville) – hayrides, corn maze, pumpkins, bluegrass! We play noon - 3:00 PM.

Saturday, October 17: The Yard Arm (920 Erie St, Racine) – a fun restaurant/bar that we’ve played a couple of times and have really enjoyed. We play 7:30 -11:30 PM.

Bluegrass Friday Night

We are rather a fan of the Cream City Bluegrass Band.

They will be playing this Friday evening, from 9:00 p.m. until midnight, at Paddy’s Pub on the East side of Milwaukee, at 2339 N. Murray Avenue. If you are any kind of bluegrass fan at all, this is a dandy way to spend Friday night.

A quick note on an upcoming show: my group, the Cream City Bluegrass Band, has a fun gig coming up. On Saturday, November 8th, from 9-midnight, we’re going to be playing our first show at Maxie’s Southern Comfort. Maxie’s has been getting great reviews for its food, and the owner is a big bluegrass fan!

We’re excited for the gig, and we’d be even more excited if we knew we might see you there! Please do come on down if you can make it!

Hope your fall is off to a great start! The next few weeks bring four great opportunities to hear your own Cream City Bluegrass Band!

In a previous post, we asked “How good is the Cream City Bluegrass Band?” Our answer, “Pretty good. Good enough to be enjoyable and satisfying even for seasoned and discriminating bluegrass fans.” Translation: If you are any sort of Bluegrass fan, listening to the group is an excellent way of spending an evening.

Bluegrass in the Milwaukee Area

From our political philospher colleague Ryan Hanley:

Just a quick note to let you know that my group, the Cream City Bluegrass Band, has a few shows coming up. Two are in Racine (details below). Closer to home for most of you though is our show on Saturday, August 2nd, from 9-midnight, at Paddy’s Pub in Milwaukee (2339 N. Murray; just north of North Avenue). Paddy’s is a great venue — we’ve had a great time playing there before, and would love to see you down there next Saturday for a fun night out if you can make it.

The two Racine dates are:

8/1/08 / Friday / Dunn Bros Coffee / 245 Main Street / Racine, 7-10 p.m.

8/29/08 / Friday / Music on the Monument / Racine 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

How good is the Cream City Bluegrass Band?

Pretty good. Good enough to be enjoyable and satisfying even for seasoned and discriminating bluegrass fans.

Including even old geezers who saw Flatt and Scruggs in live performance.

Good enough such that, if you like bluegrass, you want to be there.

Marquette Political Science majors will particularly get a kick seeing Professor Ryan Hanley on the Mandolin.

Marquette Political Science Students: See One of Your Professors Play Bluegrass Tonight

The professor, of course, is Ryan Hanley, who is a member of the Cream City Bluegrass Band.

He’s the follow in the Santa Claus cap in the shadows on the right-hand side of the photo at the top of the band’s home page.

They will be playing at the Village Pub (4488 N. Oakland) in Shorewood from 8-midnight tonight!
