“Gold:” The Most Unpopular Nickname Ever?

A straw poll on the Journal-Sentinel web site, as of this moment, shows reaction to the “Gold” nickname running 2.9% favorable, and 97.1% unfavorable.

And this is with nearly 1900 votes in.

The page also includes an hilarious parody image showing what a “Gold” mascot might look like.

The reaction on the Journal-Sentinel discussion board isn’t any more favorable.

One theory suggested there: the Trustees wanted to keep Golden Eagles, but knew the reaction would be ferociously negative. So they went with Gold, planning to announce, in a few days, that they will stick with Golden Eagles after all. And everybody will be relieved.

Our theory is much simpler: they did something really stupid.
